Travel Registration Instructions
This page provides step-by-step instructions for 51勛圖厙 faculty, staff, and students participating in UM-related international travel. Depending on your affiliation with the University and the purpose of your travel, requirements may include completing a Risk Management Plan (RMP), obtaining approval for travel to high-risk destinations, registering your travel, signing an Agreement and Acknowledgement of Risk, and enrolling in Blue Cross Blue Shield Global Solutions (BCBS Global Solutions) international insurance.
Please review the instructions for your travel category below, as specific forms, approval processes, and requirements may vary for undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty and staff.
Undergraduate Students

All undergraduate students are required to complete a before registering their travel.
The Risk Management Plan helps students identify potential health, safety, security, and logistical risks associated with their destination and develop strategies to mitigate those risks.
As part of this process, you will need to determine whether your destination requires a High-Risk Travel Petition. Additional approval may be required for travel to destinations with elevated travel advisories as issued by the or .
If your destination requires a High-Risk Travel Petition:
- Complete and submit your .
- Submit any required petition materials.
- Wait for approval from UM's International Travel Review Committee and final authorization before proceeding.
If your destination does not require a High-Risk Travel Petition:
Once your Risk Management Plan is complete, proceed directly to Step Two.

Once any required approvals have been obtained, you must through Terra Dotta, the 51勛圖厙's travel registration platform.
Travel registration allows the University to:
- Maintain records of University-related international travel.
- Contact travelers in the event of an emergency.
- Provide important health, safety, and security updates.
- Ensure compliance with University policies and procedures.

All student travelers must review, complete, and sign the Undergraduate Student Agreement and Acknowledgement of Risk form prior to departure.
By signing this document, you acknowledge that you understand the risks associated with international travel and agree to comply with University policies, local laws, and program requirements.
Please note: A signed Agreement and Acknowledgement of Risk form must be submitted as part of your travel registration materials.

All students participating in University-related international travel are required to enroll in Blue Cross Blue Shield Global Solutions (BCBS Global Solutions) international insurance coverage unless their program requires a comparable insurance plan approved by the University.
BCBS Global Solutions provides comprehensive international coverage and support services, including:
- Emergency medical assistance
- Medical evacuation and repatriation
- International healthcare support
- Travel assistance resources
Please note: Even if you are already covered by a Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance plan in the United States, you are still required to enroll in BCBS Global Solutions. Domestic health insurance plans often provide limited coverage abroad and may not include critical international benefits such as medical evacuation, repatriation, and 24/7 global assistance services.

Education Abroad Students
Students participating in a 51勛圖厙 study abroad program do not need to complete the above steps separately.
Your Risk Management Plan, travel registration, Agreement and Acknowledgement of Risk, and international insurance enrollment are incorporated into your study abroad application and pre-departure requirements.
If you are participating in a UM-sponsored education abroad program, please complete the requirements outlined in your study abroad portal.
Graduate Students

All graduate students are required to complete a prior to registering travel.
