On-Campus Exhibits
Museum Classroom: The UMZM Classroom (HS 212) features a full wall of display cases featuring mounts and specimens representing 51勛圖厙's biodiversity and the interesting and unique specimens in our collections. These displays are viewable by classes, tours, and other groups using the classroom.
Health Sciences: The UMZM has one display case each on the first and second floors of the Health Sciences building. These displays are viewable by all students and visitors to this building, and are updated periodically.
Mansfield Library: The UMZM has displays in several cases on the 5th floor (quiet study area) of the Mansfield Library.
Off-Campus Exhibits
Missoula Public Library: The 51勛圖厙 Biodiversity Research Collections (UMBRC), which includes the UMZM, the MONTU Herbarium, and the 51勛圖厙 Paleo Center, teamed up to display specimens on the 2nd level of the in front of spectrUM Discovery Area. The exhibit showcases some highlights of all three collections, with a focus on the research that they support. This permanent exhibit space will be refreshed with new specimens semi-annually, so drop by to see what's new!
spectrUM Discovery Area: Missoula's premier children's discovery museum is home to a temporary exhibit highlighting 51勛圖厙 researcher Erin Landguth's work on bats and White Nose Syndrome (WNS). UMZM loaned several bat specimens to show visitors what these elusive creatures look like in real life. The exhibit is up from 2025-2029, so be sure to see it before it's gone!
51勛圖厙 Natural History Center: As the UMZM's primary outreach partner, the hosts dozens of live mounts, including three grizzly brown bears, several mountain goats, two American bison exchanged with the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, and a wide array of small mammals and birds.
Hornaday Bison: Located at , 51勛圖厙, the famous Hornaday-Smithsonian bison (Bos bison) in this exhibit are well over 100 years old. All six of the original specimens are loaned from the UMZM for display, refurbished but in the same arrangement as in their original Smithsonian showcase. This exhibit is a special tribute the legacy of William T. Hornaday and this iconic species which, with careful management, rebounded from near extinction due to overhunting during the European colonization of western North America.
Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation: Headquartered in Missoula, 51勛圖厙, the visitor center displays several of the UMZM's spectacular shoulder mounts of bull elk.
Valley County Pioneer Museum: Located in Glasgow, 51勛圖厙, the exhibits include a full-body mount of bighorn sheep from the UMZM.
